What to Watch on Netflix This May

by Chloe Wilshere, Content Creator

As life slowly gets back to normal this spring, after a day of soaking up the good old British sun and enjoying drinks in the pub garden with friends, there’s nothing we’d rather come home to than something new to watch on Netflix.

Despite being able to go out again, new series and films on Netflix will always have a place in our hearts – we don’t know what we’d do without them. So, keep reading to see what hot releases are coming to your screen this May on Netflix.

1. Selena (Part Two) - May 4th

The series based on the iconic Mexican American performer Selena Quintanilla is back for part two.

Netflix’s teaser trailer for part two shows Selena in her iconic purple sequined jumpsuit performing her smash hit “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom”. It was an outfit that became synonymous with Selena’s last ever performance at the Houston Livestock Show, as a month later, at 23 years old, she tragically passed away.

So, whether you’re a Selena fan or just want some good old Latino music to bop around the house to, then Selena: The Series is a must-watch.

2. Jupiter's Legacy - May 7th

It’s been long-awaited for many, but the upcoming Netflix Original superhero drama based on the comic of the same name: Jupiter’s Legacy, is finally here.

Spanning from the 1930s to the present day, the film follows the first generation of superheroes rising to prominence after receiving their powers; we then fast forward to the present day where the children of the fabled heroes are struggling to live up to their parent’s legacy.

If you’re a DC or Marvel fan, Jupiter’s Legacy is a must-watch for all you superhero fans.

3. Monster - May 7th

Based on the award-winning novel of the same name, Monster is finally coming to our screens on Netflix this May.

Originally debuted in 2018 during the Sundance Film Festival, the story follows a 17-year-old student with the world ahead of him; but that all comes crashing down when he is charged with murder. Watch the plot unfold as this 17-year-old fights for his innocence and integrity against a criminal justice system that’s already judged him and branded him a monster.

With an all-star line-up including the likes of Jennifer Hudson and John David Washington, along with musicians A$AP Rocky, Nas and John Legend, this film is one you don’t want to miss this May.

4. Oxygen - May 12th

If Thrillers are your thing then you’re going to love Oxygen.

Coming to Netflix on May 12th, we will warn you that if claustrophobia isn’t your thing then this may not be for you…The plot follows the story of a woman who wakes up in a cryogenic unit with no memory. Quickly running out of oxygen, she must rebuild her memories and remember who she is in order to survive. This thriller is sure to have you on the edge of your seat, and likely gasping for air.

5. The Woman in the Window - May 14th

After years of severe production delays, The Woman in The Window was originally meant to premiere back in 2018, but finally it’s coming to a screen near you via Netflix this May.

Starring Amy Adams, this mysterious film follows a woman confined to her home by agoraphobia (a fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult). As a psychologist, she becomes obsessed with her new neighbours and ends up solving a crime she witnesses from her window.

This confusing, mind-bending mystery film is one you won’t want to miss.

6. Army of the Dead - May 21st

The director of Justice League, Zack Snyder’s new Netflix original is finally being released on Netflix.

This zombie horror film follows, you guessed it, a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, where a group of mercenaries take the ultimate gamble by venturing into the quarantine zone for the greatest heist ever – yep, possibly even better than those in Money Heist.

The question is – will a simple in-and-out job really be so simple?
