The Dress Of The Season, Supporting The Prince’s Trust

As part of our partnership with The Prince’s Trust , we offered a young entrepreneur a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to design their very own dress. The brief? Create a party-ready style made entirely of leftover fabric that would otherwise go to waste.

We’re delighted to introduce our winner, Alice Hampton, and her Gossip-girl-themed creation. Made from deadstock fabric, her aim was to create a confidence-giving mini that will always make a statement.

As well as having her dress brought to life by our Design team, Alice also won £1,000 to put towards her own business venture and work experience with us – this included expert advice and insight on delivering a product from concept to retail, as well as an opportunity to network and build relationships.

At long last, Alice’s design is now ready to make its way into your wardrobe. And as an added bonus, £10 from every dress sold goes directly to The Prince’s Trust, so they can continue to support young people like Alice by opening up job, education and training opportunities.

Scroll on to hear from Alice herself how the dress of the season went from an idea to a reality…

“I imagined what a glamorous party girl would look like, so I thought of a New York City night life concept.”

“I decided on velvet fabric as the main dress component and organza ruffles because I think they have a festive feel to them but also look classy.”

“My favourite part about this dress is that it’s preventing all that fabric from ending up in landfill and not harming the environment further!”

“My time at New Look has enabled me to experience what a design career entails and that is exactly what I want to be doing. I’m hoping to put the £1,000 prize money toward starting up my own brand of zero-waste garments.”
