Ten Minutes with Kate Hutchins On All Things Fashion

by Chloe Wilshere, Content Creator

Kate Hutchins New Look Ambassador Q & A

Autumn is on the approach, so not only are shorter days and crisp mornings on the horizon, but a new-season wardrobe is pending. And we couldn’t think of anyone better to inspire our dream autumn wardrobe and get us ready for the new season than Kate Hutchins. Launching online on Wednesday 8th September, Kate Hutchins’ edit features minimalist styling, clean cuts and must-have coats picked by the influencer herself.

We took ten minutes with Kate to discuss her New Look edit and all things fashion (and bunnies).

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
"Kind, caring and positive!"

Tell us a little about yourself and how you became a content creator.
"I’ve always loved both outfits and Instagram so the combination was something that came naturally to me! I managed to build a bit of a following throughout my university degree and I was lucky enough to jump straight into content creation full time after graduating."

Which channels do you prefer creating content for?
"I love everything from YouTube to TikTok, but Instagram will always be my favourite because I love how you’re able to perfect the shot and curate an aesthetically pleasing feed. I also really enjoy the amount of interaction you get on Instagram. I chat to my followers all-day long!"

How would you describe your style?
"Classic, comfy and timeless."

You definitely have a signature look. Were you always drawn to capsule-wardrobe dressing?
"Yes, I’ve dabbled in being more trend focused in the past but it’s far too high maintenance. What I love about having a capsule wardrobe is knowing I always have outfits, even when I haven’t bought anything new in a while."

Tell us about your edit with New Look…
"I really wanted to pick items I knew you could wear throughout the entire season, and that could be dressed up or down, creating lots of versatility. I’m obsessed with the cute shacket – it just screams cosy autumnal days, which I’m so excited for. I also love the accessories in the edit, too."

We love the houndstooth slip dress. How would you style it?
"Omg, I adore it! It was a bit of a last-minute addition to the collection (it’s not my typical style) but it’s a piece I’m super excited to style up in different ways. I’d wear it with a white shirt underneath and the knee-high boots for a preppy ‘Emily in Paris’-style look!"

What's your must-have layering piece for autumn?
"So boring but it has to be the classic black roll neck. I must have about 10 – they’re warm and go underneath everything!"

We’re loving the denim in your edit. Do you have any tips for styling your jeans with shoes?
"Yay, me too! I find with skinny-jeans, anything goes: boots, heels, trainers. With anything more loose fitting like mom jeans I’ll only wear low rise shoes. I just think it looks neater."

What’s something you own too much of in your wardrobe?
"It’s the classic black roll neck again. I’ve also been told I have too many coats, but I don’t agree with that one – you can never have too many coats right?!"

Do you have any top tips for building a capsule wardrobe?
"Keep it simple, get all the basics in neutral colours so you can build up around that. And donate any clothes you don’t wear very often that cause clutter in your wardrobe."

What are five must-have items every girl needs in her wardrobe?
"A good pair of mom jeans, leather leggings, a white shirt, a timeless coat and a good pair of winter boots."

We can’t not ask... the bunnies. How did they come into your life? Have they ever chewed anything they weren’t supposed to (cough, an Apple charger)?
"Ahhh my bunnies! I’m a big animal lover and I saw these two baby bunnies up for adoption after their owners wanted to move house. I knew I had to take them! They’re surprisingly not big chewers at all, the only thing they’re obsessed with are the TV remotes, which is random but I can’t complain – at least it’s not wires."

What’s next for you?
"I’m looking to buy a house in the next year or so and I love the idea of renovating, so interiors is definitely an option I’m keen to explore! I’m also really into jewellery – my outfits aren’t complete without it! So, I would love to design my own maybe."
