by Emma Menteath, Content Lead

Beating those January blues can be a challenge, and that's ok. We've all been there, and 2021 is no different, trust us. Thankfully, there's the power of self-care, and we're all about self-care after the year we've had.

When it comes to those dreary winter months, self-care plays an important role for both our mind and body and while finding the time for those moments may seem daunting, we're here to help with a little inspo for your morning breakfast. Or afternoon snack if breakfast ain't your thing.

What better time to start a new self-care routine than with 2 delicious 5-minute smoothie recipes?

1. The Classic Strawberry Banana Smoothie

The classic strawberry banana smoothie recipe is hard to beat. It’s sweet, it’s fresh, it's super simple to make and it’s always tasty.

Ingredients:

2 cups frozen strawberries
1 fresh banana, peeled
1 cup milk, or a milk alternative of your choice
 1 cup of ice

How to Make It:

1. Add all the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth. If the mixture seems too thick, just add a little extra milk. If it seems too thin, add in extra strawberries or banana.
2. Serve immediately and enjoy.

2. Salted Caramel Date Shake

This is like a slightly-salty, dairy-free, cleaned-up version of a date shake. Needless to say, we’re big fans…

Ingredients:

5 medjool dates, pitted
2/3 cup coconut milk
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Pinch of sea salt
A squeeze of fresh lemon juice
1 cup of ice

How to Make It:

1. If your dates are fudgy-soft, you can skip this step. Place the pitted dates in a small bowl and cover them with boiling water. Let the dates soak for 5 minutes.
2. Strain the dates and place them in a blender. Add the coconut milk, vanilla, sea salt, lemon juice, and ice.
3. Blend the mixture on high until the ice is crushed throughout the liquid and you have a smooth, milkshake-like texture.
 4. Serve immediately and enjoy.
