Get to know our Kind jeans

Jeans might be an iconic part of our wardrobe, but the amount of water and chemicals used to make them? Not so iconic.

As part of our commitment to making positive steps for people and our planet, ALL our jeans are Kind – this means they’re made with less water or fabrics with a lower environmental impact*, so you don’t have to choose between looking good and feeling good.

Jeanologia

As we just mentioned, making a pair of jeans uses *a lot* of water. To help combat this, we use Jeanologia technology and other low-impact finishing processes when creating a big chunk of ours – that’s because they use less water, energy and chemical consumption in the manufacturing process compared to the industry standard.

We measure the reduction in impact using the Jeanologia Environmental Impact Measurement (EIM) software to ensure our Kind denim achieves a low-impact score. EIM is a unique and powerful platform developed to monitor and improve the environmental impact of garment finishing processes at the manufacturing stage.

**Calculated using Jeanologia’s EIM software. During finishing, compared to industry standard. As defined by Jeanologia.

Better Cotton

While cotton is great for making our jeans nice and comfy, conventional cotton farming methods don’t come without the cost of impacting people and our planet – we’re talking polluting fertilisers and pesticides, along with poor living wages and working conditions.

So we’re partnered with Better Cotton*** with the aim of improving cotton farming globally. The amazing initiative is dedicated to helping cotton communities survive and thrive while protecting and restoring the environment – think teaching farmers more sustainable practices and fighting for fair pay and equal opportunities.

We’re proud that this year we reached our target of sourcing 100% lower-impact cotton, meaning that all the cotton we source is minimum Better Cotton.

***Better Cotton is sourced via a system of mass balance and is not physically traceable to end products.

Lower-impact fabrics

We’re keen on reducing our impact on the environment in any way we can, so we use other fabrics like recycled polyester and TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres when making our jeans.

Recycled polyester is made from recycled plastic mainly sourced from drinks bottles – it’s cleaned, melted down and turned into polyester yarns which can then be used in our denim. By using waste items, it helps reduce our impact by decreasing the amount of virgin plastic we use and preventing waste going to landfill or incineration.

Meanwhile, TENCEL™ Lycoell fibres are made from sustainably sourced wood cellulose and are produced using environmentally responsible processes that reuse 99.9% of solvents. The best part is, the fibres are certified as compostable and biodegradable, so they can fully revert back to nature in 6-16 weeks. Jean-ius, right?
