Freya Killin on New Year Plans, Big Dreams and Timeless Style

Meet fashion influencer, shopaholic and content creator Freya Killin.

Despite her Instagram following of 580k and counting, Freya is just a normal girl with big dreams and an Insta feed we’re ✨obsessed ✨ with (we’ve completely fallen in love with her eye for classic, timeless style with a modern twist). If you’re looking to build a capsule wardrobe with an edge, she’s your girl. 💁‍♀️

This season, Freya’s curated her very own New Look edit full of classic new year staples you can wear again, again and… again. Versatile and timeless, these mix-and-match pieces ensure endless looks from season to season.

We took ten minutes with Freya to discuss her upcoming New Look edit, new year plans and her tips on building a timeless, capsule wardrobe.

Apart from what we can see on your fabulous Instagram feed, who is Freya Killin?

Freya Killin is a girl with big dreams who’s more relatable and normal (whatever normal is) than people may think! I’m an introverted extrovert (an ambivert), so I love a party and the finer things in life, but I’m most content being sat on my sofa, in comfy clothes with a hot chocolate (with oat milk, of course).

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Ambitious, motivated and tired (the tired part is the Taurus in me – love a nap, LOL).

You have a very distinctive style a lot of women can relate to, how would you describe it?

Classic, timeless, wearable outfits with a twist of cool, casual and chic. In short, I like to put together really timeless, wearable outfits and add a modern spin.

Your New Look edit is filled with some amazing new year staples. Can you tell us a bit more about it?

I wanted to create an edit full of pieces you can mix and match to create so many different looks. I also wanted the pieces to be timeless…staples you’ll want to get out of your wardrobe year after year – I think we’ve achieved just that!

Favourite piece in your edit? And how would you style it?

This could possibly be the hardest question as I genuinely love it all, but if I had to pick something it would be the long brown teddy shacket. It just goes with everything! Jeans, leather leggings, a dress... it’s so versatile.

Which 2022 trends are you most excited about?

I can’t say I go with trends very much, I’m more about classic, timeless dressing, like the pieces in my edit. Although I’m definitely excited to get back into spring outfits – bring on the blazers and shackets!

Your edit is getting us excited for the new year and new-season trends – do you have anything fun or exciting planned for 2022?

I’m so excited for the year ahead and have some really exciting things in the pipeline – watch this space!

We know you love a layer, what’s your favourite layering piece from your edit?

It would have to be either the classic black roll neck or the hoodie – both items you can wear over and over again in so many different outfits.

Any tips for styling the green poplin shirt from day-to-night?

I love this shirts SO much, it’s the perfect green. For daytime, pair it with blue jeans, a white tee and trainers. For evening, switch out the jeans for leather leggings, add a stiletto sock boot and you’re good to go!

Who are your major style influencers or icons?

Hailey Bieber. Everyone always says her, but I genuinely love her style so much. It’s the perfect mix of classic dressing with a young, casual twist.

What would you say are the three things in your wardrobe that you absolutely CANNOT live without?

A black blazer, leather leggings, mom jeans, shacket. Sorry, that was four, but I couldn’t leave out shackets! P.S. that’s why all four pieces are in my edit!

What would you consider a major fashion crime?

I think the great thing about fashion is that everything goes, so I don’t see anything as a crime. However, when I was young, it was the fashion to wear a skirt attached to a pair of trousers. That was pretty tragic. Watch this space though, it’s bound to come back…

We ADORE the fact your dad shoots all your content. Does he have any top tips for capturing the perfect picture?

Honestly, I owe him so much, he’s incredible! He used to do a bit of photography in his younger years, so he has a real eye for it. Now he knows my angles (keep the camera low and tilt it upwards…makes your legs look longer) we are the dream team – although I think he wants to retire from the job soon!

Apart from the fact that your dad shoots all your content, what would people be surprised to find out about you?

That I can do the splits? Haha! All jokes aside, I think people would be surprised to know I’m just a normal girl. I was a waitress for 10 years before I fell into ‘influencing’, as we call it. I always dreamed of getting into fashion, but I had no fashion qualifications or background, so began sharing my outfits on Instagram and here we are today. If you want something enough you can make it happen, I promise.

Any goals or resolutions for the new year?

Get back in the gym! I feel like it’s everyone’s goal in January, but I’ve really let my fitness slide, so that’s a huge goal of mine. I also have some big career goals I hope to achieve, but most of all good health, both mental and physical, is always top of my list.
