5 mins with @whatemwore to talk her BETTER than BASICS edit

To celebrate almost one week of @whatemwore’s Better than Basics edit, we caught up with Em to chat through her favourite pieces, styling tips and more!

Yet to check out her picks? Think wardrobe must-haves you won’t even bother putting back in the drawer, alongside on-trend outerwear and tailoring to style them up with – we’ve *all* snapped up that dogtooth coat at New Look HQ!

What makes a great style staple?
“A great staple is one that can be worn multiple ways and for different occasions. Top tip: I always try to make sure I can style a staple piece at least three to five different ways before buying it.”

If someone were to buy just one piece from your edit, which would you recommend?
“Either the leather-look trousers or the camel knit – I love that the trousers can be styled with trainers or loafers for daytime and heels for evening, and the camel knit is so soft and cosy!”

What’s your favourite essential for day-to-night styling?
“I’d have to say a black blazer – it can literally do everything in your diary, whether that’s a work meeting, brunch or date night.”

What are your tips for finding missing gaps in your wardrobe?
“I think it’s important to have a regular clear out of pieces you no longer wear as this makes it much easier to see what you have and what you’re missing."

How can your picks be styled for different seasons?
“Layering is a great way to make your basics transition between seasons – think adding a T-shirt or shirt underneath a knit or throwing a jumper over your shoulders in case it gets cold. I’ve included some gorgeous coats in the edit to keep cosy through winter, too!”

What ways can we style your essentials to tap into current trends?
“One of my other favourite pieces from the edit is the leather-look midi as it’s a fun take on the midi skirt trend while still being very classic and timeless. It’s super versatile too – you can pair with trainers for day and knee-high boots come evening.”

What’s a non-clothing related thing you couldn't live without?
“I’d say definitely fake tan – for me an outfit is never complete without a little glow!”

If you could only wear one outfit FOREVER, what would it be?
Jeans, T-shirt and blazer. It’s so simple but always makes me feel put together and looks really effortless.”

Which three words best sum up your edit?
“Timeless, versatile and chic!”
