12 Christmas Films You Need to Watch on Disney+

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and with the school holidays now in full swing, it’s time to sit back, relax and get really get into the Christmas spirit. And what better way to do that than with a few Disney classics? They do know a thing or two about spreading Christmas cheer during the most magical time of the year, after all 🤷‍♀️.

And with the majority of cinemas across the country closed, that annual Christmas film viewing at the cinema is now a no-go. So, we’ve done the hard work for you and rounded up 12 Christmas films you need to watch on Disney+ this festive season. From a few classics to some more recent makes that you’re sure to love, they’re sure to keep you busy and in the festive spirit.

1. The Santa Clause - 1994

It may have first aired on our screens in 1994, but this Christmas classic never gets old.

When Tim Allen’s character Scott accidentally kills Santa Clause, he realises someone needs to take his place. So, in true Christmas spirit, Scott takes it upon himself to take on the role and spread Christmas cheer.

​​​​​​​If you’ve not seen this Christmas classic, it may sound like a horror, but we promise it’s fun and uplifting for all the family.

2. Noelle - 2019

If you’re a Christmas superfan and have watched all the Christmas classics on repeat every year, then it’s time to add a new one to your rotation. And Noelle is the perfect festive film to add to that ever-growing Christmas classic collection.

​​​​​​​With a lot of pressure about filling in his father, Santa Clause’s boots, next-in-line for the role of Santa Clause Nick goes missing. And it’s down to his sister Noelle to find him and save Christmas. This uplifting, modern Christmas film is sure to keep the whole family settled down for an hour or two.

3. The Muppet Christmas Carol - 1992

Love them or hate them, there’s no denying the fact that The Muppet Christmas Carol is a Christmas classic and it must be watched every year.

​​​​​​​Kermit, Miss Piggy, Gonzo and the rest of the Muppet gang teach Scrooge the true meaning of Christmas. This Charles Dickens tale is a must-watch and we couldn’t be happier that it’s available to stream on Disney+.

4. Godmothered - 2020

So, you’ve watched every Christmas film under the sun and are dying for something new to watch. Well, as always, Disney have got you covered.

​​​​​​​Godmothered was released earlier this month and yep, you guessed it. It’s about a fairy god mother at Christmas time. This light-hearted comedy is the perfect, easy watch for a lazy Christmas afternoon for all the family.

5. A Christmas Carol - 2009

Disney+ alone has three options of A Christmas Carol to watch to keep you busy this festive season. But for our round up we’ve chosen the latest version from 2009 as a must-watch, starring Jim Carrey as Scrooge.

​​​​​​​As spooky as it is festive, this classic tale is a key reminder as to what’s important in life. And it’s safe to say we’re all feeling more grateful for the little things in life this festive season.

6. Frozen - 2013

What was Christmas before Frozen?

​​​​​​​In 2013, Frozen changed Christmas films forever, and now we’re a nation that’s obsessed with it (and Olaf, of course). Best of all, not only does Disney+ have the first film for all the family to enjoy, but Frozen 2 is also available to stream. And it doesn’t end there. If you’re a frozen superfan then you need to add Olaf’s Frozen Adventure to your watch list this festive season.

7. Santa Paws 2: The Santa Pups - 2012

Puppies and Christmas, it doesn’t get much better than that does it?

​​​​​​​Whilst you focus on the wrapping, this Christmas classic is sure to keep the kids quiet for at least an hour or two.

8. The Nutcracker and the Four Realms - 2018

This Disney re-imagination of The Nutcracker is a must-watch this festive season if you’ve not seen it before.

​​​​​​​The story follows the life of Clara, whose mother leaves her a mysterious gift that sends her embarking on a magical journey to the four secret realms, where there’s gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice. A must-watch, even if it’s just for the gingerbread soldiers.

9. I'll Be Home for Christmas - 1998

Johnathon Taylor Thomas fans, it’s time to unite. As the 90s heartthrob is the star of the show in this must-watch Christmas classic.

​​​​​​​Johnathon plays Jake, a college student that faces an impossible journey when he is left stranded in a desert, thousands of miles from home, with no money and just a few days before Christmas. But will he make it home in time?

10. Home Alone - 1990

Quite simply it isn’t the festive season without several streams of Home Alone. No matter how many times we’ve seen it, it will simply never get old.

11. Lady and The Tramp - 2019

A tale of two dogs, how can you go wrong watching that?

​​​​​​​The Disney classic re-make is now available on Disney+ and we couldn’t be more excited about it. Follow the love-story of a pampered house-dog and a tough but loveable stray who em‘bark’ on an unexpected adventure and grow closer despite their differences.

12. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe - 2005

If magical is what you’re after this festive season, then you can’t wrong with watching The Chronicles of Narnia.

​​​​​​​The story follows four children who find a wardrobe that leads to a snowy fantasy world. The kids are sure to be checking out every wardrobe looking for a new fantasy world after watching this film.
