The Return of the '90s Boho Skirt

With the weather warming up, skirts are officially back on the scene. And there’s one style in particular that’s stealing the spotlight: the boho skirt. Joining the likes of slip dresses and cycling shorts, boho skirts have returned from the ‘90s just in time for bare-leg season. With their layered design and flouncy finish, they make dressing for the sunshine even better.

As seen on fashion’s ‘it’ girls, the boho skirt is the wardrobe piece you just *have* to invest in this summer. Whether it’s a leg-lengthening mini or a floor-length maxi, the tiered silhouette is the style to be seen in. Ready to turn up the volume?

1. Then

First making a name for itself back in the ‘90s, the boho skirt was a must-have during the Spice Girls era. Think low-slung waists, lots of tiers and the addition of studded Western belts (anyone remember them?!). It was dressed up or down and came in mini and maxi lengths but however it was worn, one thing’s for sure – there was lots of volume. Take inspo from Gwen for your next vacay by ditching the kimono and flinging a boho skirt over your bikini instead. Or, why not copy Jessica Alba’s waistcoat and maxi combo for an easy route to polished?

2. Now

Nowadays, it’s not changed all that much. Still just as flouncy but with a few less tiers, a higher waist and no Western belts in sight. Made a little more glam by the likes Paris Hilton, it’s become a staple in 2022 just like it was back then. For true bohemian vibes, take tips from Vanessa Hudgens and style the flouncy silhouette with a crop top and retro sunnies. Or, if holidays are on your mind, Alessandra Ambrosio is here with all the inspo you need with this sunshine-ready set.
