The Knitwear Styles We'll Happily Live in for the Next 6 Months

by Hannah Rose, Copywriter

Autumn: the time we swap our dresses  for jumpers and our camis for cardis. As we wave farewell to the sunshine and say ‘hello’ to colder weather and darker days, we also welcome a whole load of cosy must-haves. Yep, we’re talking knitwear. If there’s anything to get us excited about the lower temps, it has to be the things we’ll be wearing to keep us warm. And this season, they’re looking better than ever.

Last autumn/winter, it was less about what was trending and more about what was comfy. After all, who was going to see it unless it was on Zoom? However, this year, we’re officially out of hibernation, so choosing knitwear that’s not just comfy but also stylish is now that bit more important.

So, we’ve rounded up the knitwear trends that will be taking over this season. From cute collars to statement prints, get your wardrobe ready for the months ahead…

1. Cosy Cardigans

Once upon a time, cardigans were more something our Gran would wear. Now, everyone’s wearing the button-front knit. And who can blame them? Combining cute with cosy, they’re just what we need during the colder months. This season, it’s all about styles that will keep you snug yet stylish – think fluffy fabrics and cable knits for warmth, and bright shades for a cool touch.

2. Knitted Vests

Big news this season, the knitted vest is an autumn/winter must-have. Why? Firstly, they look seriously cool. But it doesn’t end there. Worn alone as the perfect transitional style or layered over any outfit to add instant warmth, the vest’s versatility makes us love it even more. Stick to neutrals that go with anything or bright colours to add oomph to your look.

3. Argyle Prints

The preppy print is everywhere this season. Our fave way to wear it? On knitwear, of course. We love how it can take a jumper or cardigan to a whole new level. It’s not just about neutral shades though, it’s about new exciting colours (think clashing pinks and greens) that make the statement print stand out even more. Yep, argyle has had a serious upgrade and we’re loving it.

4. Faux Fur Trims

Taking knitwear up a notch, the faux-fur trim is exactly what you need when it comes to keeping cosy. As well as keeping your neck seriously warm (cold weather, we’re ready for you), it also adds a glam touch to your look. Keep it subtle in an all-black ensemble, bold in a bright shade or go for a contrasting neckline for extra impact – think leopard faux-fur trims that look as good as they feel.

5. Jumper Dresses

Just because the temperature’s dropped, doesn’t mean dresses are out the picture. Choose ones with cosy fabrics and high necklines and you’ve got yourself a style you can keep on wearing. When it comes to autumn/winter fashion, we love a jumper dress and knee-high boot combo. This season expect roll necks, earthy shades and cosy fabrics.

6. Details

This autumn/winter, it’s safe to say that knitwear is far from boring – it’s all about those little details. From sequin embellishments to frill trims, collared necklines and more, staying cosy is about to get exciting. Plus, these kinds of knits are perfect for the party season, which after last year, we’ll be going all out for.

7. Dogtooth Prints

When it comes to the new season, it’s not all about those autumnal colours. This year, monochrome is set to be massive as dogtooth print is taking over. Proving that black and white doesn’t have to be boring, dogtooth is that print anyone can pull off. Adding a smart touch to knitwear, it’s perfect for those occasions when you want to impress.

8. Collared Necklines

If you hadn’t already guessed, collars are huge for autumn/winter. Big collars, small collars, subtle collars, bold collars – as long as it’s got a collar on it, we want it. From slouchy knits with V-collar necklines to ones with contrasting collars, embellished details, frill trims and more, there’s a collared style out there for everyone.

9. Novelty

We all love a novelty knit, right? Well, this autumn winter, novelty styles are going to be big. Think statement styles that will look as good on your Insta feeds as they do on a brunch date. And when it comes to wearing novelty knits, don’t be shy. From cloud to strawberries and hearts, there’s no print that’s too OTT.
