8 Knitwear Trends to Keep You Cosy All Season Long

Ursula Sela - Copy Team Lead

The cold weather has arrived and with us spending more time than ever before at home, comfort and cosiness have definitely become our top priority.

Now, we know there’s lots you won’t be quite so excited about for winter (grey skies, rainy days and sub-zero temperatures? No thanks) but the pros definitely outweigh the cons in our eyes. Chilly days and nights mean more time spent snuggled up on the sofa binge-watching TV shows, hot chocolates filled to the brim with marshmallows and, top of our list, allll the feel-good fashion. We’re talking coats so cool you won’t mind hiding your outfit under them, boots that are both comfy and cute, and next-level knitwear that will make you look good without even trying.

Throughout 2020, if you’re anything like us, you’ve probably spent 98% of your time in T-shirts and joggers, so it might be time to mix things up for 2021, and that’s where extra-nice knits come in…Knitwear is the perfect way to elevate any look without sacrificing those comfortable vibes we’re all craving this year. The best part? Long gone are the days when knitwear was just a cover-up to keep you warm, now it’s a big trend piece which comes in so many different colours, fits and designs that you’ll feel spoiled for choice when you look to stock up.

There’s so much choice, in fact, that it might be overwhelming. How do you even start to pick the perfect styles for your tastes? Well, that’s where we come in. We’ve rounded up 8 of the biggest knitwear trends this season that your wardrobe’s going to absolutely love and that are definitely worth the investment. We’re talking everything from super-fluffy knits to jumpers with collars and matching sets you can wear from the sofa to the supermarket (and everything in between).

Ready for some inspiration? Cosy vibes incoming…

1. Fluffy Knits

This season we’re all about those fuzzy feels and nothing gives us that quite like fluffy knits. Whether it’s a bralette or a vest you can throw on at home when you’re lounging, or a bright knit jumper to make you stand out on those all-important Zoom calls (bonus points if it has puff sleeves), fluffy knits are guaranteed to boost your mood.

2. Knitted Loungewear

We couldn’t talk about the biggest knitwear trends this season without bringing loungewear into the mix, of course. Knitted loungewear really is the perfect combo of comfort and fashion, it’s a great way to feel like you’ve made an effort with your outfit for the day even when you actually haven’t. Win win, right?

3. Knitted Co-ord Sets

Next up is something that’s been dominating our Insta feeds right now. Can you guess? Yep, it’s the always-cute matchy-matchy knitted co-ord sets. Adding a put-together feel to any cosy look, knitted sets are the perfect trend to take you look from lunching to lounging. Think cardis layered over bralettes, super-soft trousers paired with fluffy tees, and three-piece sets so stylish you can even wear them to date night.

4. Vest Jumpers

The knitted vest jumper has taken the fashion world by storm this year and it’s looking cooler than ever before.

Popularised in the 90s, think Cher in Clueless rather than Chandler Bing in Friends, making this trend piece work is all about how you style it, so it looks a little less dowdy and little more dreamy 😍. The key to styling knitted vest tops when it’s cold is layering. Think muted sleeveless knit vests over seriously statement puff sleeve shirts and blouses, or coloured vest jumpers with oversized collars underneath. Trust us, once you give this trend a go you’ll be just as obsessed as us. Come spring, and the arrival of that tricky in-between weather, just lose the layers and wear your knitted vest jumper on its own. Versatile and on-trend, our favourite.

5. Cardigans

Cardigans are having a big moment this season and we couldn’t be happier about it.

The ultimate throw-on-and-go staple, cardigans are extra cosy and the styling possibilities seem endless. Whether you’re after pared-back picks which you can wear with (literally) anything for work or you’re on the hunt for mood-boosting brights which effortlessly elevate any evening look, a cardi will have you covered for all occasions. How to wear it, you ask? Well, the classic way would be open over your favourite tops but, for those Insta-girl vibes, button it up and wear it as a jumper – totally selfie-worthy.

6. Neutrals

Neutral knits will never not be at the top of our❤️list. They’re the epitome of chic and seriously so versatile, too. If you’re keeping things laid-back, you can chuck on a neutral jumper with mom jeans and black boots, or if you’re a big fan of head-to-tonal dressing - as we are - then swap out your jeans for a pair of wide-leg trousers in a similar shade to your jumper for the ultimate model-off-duty look.

7. Knitted Dresses

Yep, knits come in frock form, too. Perfect, right? Just because the temperature’s dropped, doesn’t mean you need to retire your favourite midis and minis…instead, simply change up the fabric.

Whether you prefer an extra slouchy knitted jumper dress or a form-fitting midi, knitted dresses are the can’t-go-wrong option your at-home wardrobe’s been waiting for. Meal out planned? Just swap out your slippers for some heeled boots and you’re good to go.

8. Jumpers with Collars

Top-half dressing isn’t going anywhere in a hurry and now jumpers with collars are a thing, we’re feeling pretty excited about it. From larger-than-life shapes to delicate broderie detailing and fun frill trims, this trend is so cute it’ll make you want to turn your camera on for every Zoom call. Whether you prefer chilled looks or you’re dressing up, jumpers with collars are definitely a must-have for this season (and we can see this knitwear trend sticking around for a while yet).
